What is the timeline on filing changes with the government? How will I know this has been done?

All filings with Corporations Canada, Quebec and Ontario are completed electronically and we will have a digital confirmation to send to you as soon as the changes are completed.

How long does an Amendment to change my name take? How quickly will I know?

The process varies depending on where you are incorporated.

Federally the name change is filed electronically and is normally completed within 24 hours.

In Quebec the name change is filed electronically and takes between 7-10 business days to be approved.

In Ontario a name change is not filed electronically so the delays are longer. You can expect 2-4 weeks to receive your Certificate of Amendment.

If you wish to change the legal name of your corporation (Amendment) forms must be filed with the government for approval. A name search is required and can completed within your application or you can upload your report if you have already done one.

You are able to search your Ontario corporation using a Corporate Profile Report to determine exactly what information you have on file with the Ontario Ministry.

Similary, if you wish to obtain information on a registered trade name you can do an enhanced business name search (ONBIS)

It is also possible to verify the status of a corporate that is in Ontario by requesting a Certificate of Status.
