Extra Provincial Registration - Ontario incorpdirect

Any corporation incorporated in a jurisdiction other than Ontario must complete an Initial Return by an Extra Provincial corporation within 60 days of starting business.

Once filed with the Ontario Ministry your corporation will be issued an Ontario Corporation Number.

This process does not apply if you are incorporated in Ontario, the U.S. or abroad.

PLEASE NOTE: This request is sent to the Ontario Ministry electronically and you will receive confirmation by email with your Ontario Corporation Number.

You only need to register in Quebec or Ontario if your company is opening a physical office in that province.

If you are incorporated and your name is English only then when you register in Quebec you will need to have a French version of your name.

Your legal name is your legal name, however you will be asked for a French version of your name. You will indicate this as a “Trade name used in Quebec”

Registration in Ontario can take 2-4 weeks as they are not submitted electronically. Registration in Quebec is completed electronically but will still take anywhere from 7-14 business days.

This is strictly a guideline as times can change depending on volumes at the government offices.
