In order to have a General Partnership in the province of Québec it must first be registered.

Upon registration you will obtain your Numéro d’entreprise de Québec (NEQ). A General Partnership registration does not protect the name.

Registration of your trade name will not protect the name as others can register this same trade name. Only incorporation protects your name in the province of Québec.

Please note that your registered partnership will have S.E.N.C. at the end, this is standard and stands for “Société en nom collectif”.

You can register an English version of your French name. In Quebec names must be French and can have an English version.
You will need to file annual returns for your sole proprietorship/ partnership in order to keep it active. It isn’t a “renewal” per say, just an annual return.
A name search is not required, however if you do not do a name search and the name you register is already incorporated, your application will be rejected. A name search before registration is advisable and we will do so at no additional charge.
We will send you a copy of your file by email as soon as it is published by the Quebec Registry Office.
